Mid-18th Century Pitsawn Oak Flooring

This mid-18th Century Pitsawn oak is being pre-laid in our workshop to a customer’s drawing and is part of an 80 square-metre order. To finish off, we carefully roll some of the edges to blend in any lips on the boards, then the tops are genuinely hand-cleaned back so as not to disturb any of the natural patina.

The face of these boards still have the original hewing marks from when the floor was installed some 300 years ago, an incredible piece of history retained for future generations to both enjoy and add to the story.

The dark shading of the oak has been carefully restored, with minimal surface removal to retain substantial thickness underfoot. Unlike new wood flooring, this historical piece incorporates variation in plank width and length, adding further character to the overall look. Our workshop experts carefully pre-lay the floor to ensure a natural balance amongst the pieces. To retain the rustic aesthetic and in keeping with historical methods, we used a nail-down installation to set the boards.
